The Story Behind the Art:
I have been growing potatoes for about four years.  We always have a fairly decent crop but I never saw flowers until 2020.  They were so beautiful that I just had to  preserve them in a piece of art.

My planter box is filled with lovely things and though rosemary may seem plain most of the year, when it blooms the flowers are a beautiful blue and up close look like tiny irises.  This loose "watercolor" shows some of their beauty.

I saw these dandelions in person and the heads were the size of large snowballs. I've never seen anything like them before. They were in a drainage ditch and deserved to be venerated.
i later found out that these are Salsify seed heads.  They are indeed in the dandelion family.

The Story Behind the Art:
Often looked at as an invasive weed, Bird's Foot Trefoil, from the artist's eye (or even a gardener's eye!) has lovely yellow and salmon colored flowers.  They are delicate and can easily form a carpet of color and so also can be used as a groundcover. Thanks to our friend Louise for spotting these, growing wild, on one of her walks and wishing she had them in her yard.

The Story Behind the Art:
Cattails in the high desert!  Who would have thought it was possible?  We found a single cattail in our front yard but many more were to be discovered while biking very close to our home, in of all places a large drainage ditch, which to my knowledge, hadn't seen water in quite some time.  It was a beautiful surprise and I had to capture it.

Flowering Clover

The Story Behind the Art:
When I was a little girl, living in Richmond, California, we used to collect clover "flowers" and make bracelets with them and some made necklaces. Clover seemed to be in everyone's grass so it was plentiful and no one minded our picking the "flowers." This is another discovery of Louise on one of her walks. Though clover in the grass was considered a nuisance, these wonderful flowers brought back fond childhood and hometown memories. I remember age 4 as being a magical time.

Gatsby Moon Oakleaf Hydrangea

The Story Behind the Art:
Our local hospital, St. Mary's, has some lovely grounds and even a garden where people can walk, read or relax.  Just outside of the main entrance of one of their buildings was this beautiful hydrangea, in a shape that I'd never seen before.  It was huge and just outside of the parking garage.  I took several minutes to drink it all in and when I created this piece I visualized it in front of a place of worship.

Climbing Roses

The Story Behind the Art:
When these roses were planted, I was not a big fan because they seemed to be sprawling.  They are in the "wild" variety but this year when they began to bloom, they were climbing up this boulder in our front yard.  It was beautiful and I had to capture it.  Needless to say that my mind was changed about these roses.

The Story Behind the Art:
Sometimes the best laid plans for a piece of art change 180 degrees.  Wild sunflowers appeared on our side yard and I wanted to create a watercolor piece celebrating them but as it evolved I saw this in my mind and liked it much better.  Available from small to very large.

The Story Behind the Art:
The smoke from the many California fires prevented my daily bike ride for a couple of weeks.  In that time, the trees in our neighborhood have begun to change and the shades of yellow to green are lovely. I'm glad that the smoke cleared up enough to go out for a while and capture their beauty.
