"First Lady" is in honor of the original Americans, whose culture is at risk of vanishing.
The model for this wonderful face was Juana Rodriguez, my Grandmother. The parched land and blanket were inspired after a trip to Death Valley with the International Association of Astronomical Artists. The style for this piece was from memories of seeing some of the the world's greatest Native art at Basha's in Arizona on a visit to see my old friend, Hildie (Erickson) Brooks.
